What May Necessitate Your Kid to Receive Braces

Posted on 2/6/2023 by Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS
What May Necessitate Your Kid to Receive BracesWhen you get your kid to a dentist for an early assessment which happens somewhere around 7 years of age, the dentist may discover issues with bite or jaw alignment. Monitoring how the alignment continues to take place will happen for some time. However, It may reach a point where the dentist recommends that the kid should have braces. Here are situations that necessitate the need for braces in kids:

Having Difficulty Chewing or Biting

A child who struggles with normal biting or chewing could require braces. Their teeth or jaws could be misaligned and requires correction with braces. Misalignments may be subtle in that you might not be able to see them when you look into the mouth from the front of the kid's mouth.

Teeth Grinding

Grinding teeth particularly at night could signal misalignment. Not treated, teeth grinding damages the teeth and makes the jaw shift further, resulting in teeth misalignment.

Mouth Breathing

Breathing through the mouth can affect how the face of a kid looks and also the development of the teeth. Having a long face and narrow jaws is a consequence of mouth breathing. It happens because the tongue does not rest on the mouth roof.

Jaw Shifting or Clicking

A child with clicking or shifting jaws could have alignment issues. As such, they may have to get braces to improve the alignment.

Crowded, Blocked, or Misplaced Teeth

If the teeth have become too close together or they have overlapped, it can prevent proper oral care, contribute to mouth breathing, and result in alignment issues. Let the kid get to a dentist for checkups of their teeth and jaw alignment and the need for receiving braces.

Contact our dentist when you notice these signs of receiving braces in your kid. Our dentist may also pick these signs during exams for the kid in our office. Braces can help correct misalignments and improve the kid's smile and the function of their mouth.
