Do Your Teeth Hurt After Eating Sweets? There's a Reason Why!

Posted on 9/20/2016 by Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS
A woman chewing onto a sugar cube.Very few people are actually aware that sugar sensitivity even exists until they feel the pain that can accompany it.

Then, all of a sudden, they become painfully aware that they ate something sweet and that their teeth did not like it as much as their taste buds did.

This is not something that everyone will experience, but for those who do, it can spell misery if they even think about eating a sugary treat, so what should you do?

Discover the Cause of Your Sugar Sensitivity with Your Dentist

The first thing you should do when you feel the pain of sugar sensitivity is to brush your teeth followed by drinking water to help reduce or eliminate the pain.

Next, you should place a call into your dentist. Explain to the person who answers the phone the type of pain you experienced and rate it on a scale of one to ten, ten being you wanted to go straight to the Emergency room, so they know how bad it really was. They should be able to fit you into an appointment soon, and you and your dentist can find out what is going on.

Your dentist will need to do an exam, but most of the time, sugar sensitivity comes from worn enamel. If your dentist finds that this is the case, then you will work together to figure out the best treatment options for your mouth.

From there, you should be able to help restore the enamel and repair your teeth enough to allow you to make sweet treats a part of your day once more.

Sugar sensitivity does not need to change your life, so long as you work with your dentist to fix the problems. Contact us today and make sure your teeth are in tip-top shape.
