Having a front dental crown is not what most people think of when they think of dental crowns. They usually visualize the crowns in the back that cover things like cracked molars or root canals.

However, a crown can be placed on the front teeth as well when they need a bit of extra reinforcement or if they underwent a root canal.

Here are a few important things to know about caring for a dental crown on one of your front teeth.

Dental Crowns on Front Teeth Need Extra Care

When you put a dental crown in the back, you expect it to take a lot of pressure. You chew on those back teeth, which means the crown needs to hold up to that type of use.

When you place a dental crown on the front teeth, however, its job changes. Your dental crown needs to hold up to biting into food, ideally for many years.

If you want a front dental crown to last for many years, you have to care for it gently. Making sure to clean it thoroughly is a great first step.

Avoiding biting into anything that isn't food, such as biting a pen or trying to open a package, also helps. By only using the front crown for its intended purposes, you help extend its life.

Make sure you do not forget to floss around the crown each day, and rinse thoroughly with mouthwash each night. This keeps the rest of the tooth as healthy as possible, and lets your crown last as long as possible.
