If you feel embarrassed and unhappy with the way your teeth look in color, you are surely not alone.
People with yellowing and staining on their teeth will opt for teeth whitening procedures. While the procedures may be effective for many patients, on the other hand, they can turn out to be ineffective, especially if you don't observe oral care and lifestyles that prevent staining of teeth. Teeth whitening serves to remove stains on your enamel, but they don't improve your dental health or prevent dental problems. There are ways, however, you can make the teeth whitening to be more effective. Teeth Whitening Improves Your SmileThe American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry did ask people about what they would most want to do to improve their smile. It's no surprise to see that the most common response from those asked was having their teeth look whiter. Staining of teeth may be caused by things like foods and drinks, tobacco, medications, and aging. Teeth whitening may not always work for all staining cases. There are situations where it won't be effective. For example, if the teeth are brown, they may not respond well to teeth whitening. Similarly, gray tones might just not bleach at all. If you have veneers, fillings, or crowns and caps, whitening won't work. If the discoloration has been caused by tooth injury or medication, again whitening isn't going to be effective. Teeth whitening bleaches help remove the stains and can restore your smile. How to Ensure Effective Teeth WhiteningThere are certain measures you need to take if you want your teeth whitening to be effective. It is important you clean your teeth before whitening. When you have a whitening procedure done after the teeth are cleaned, you will have teeth that are free from tartar and plaque, and this makes the whitening treatment effective. Once you have the teeth whitened, you want to ensure they will not go back to their staining condition. You may want to eat foods that maintain the white color of your teeth. These foods include fruits and vegetables such as cauliflower, carrots, green beans, apples, and celery. They help scrub teeth and generate saliva flow, something that helps in washing substances that may stain your teeth. Stay away from foods or beverages that contribute to staining of teeth, including soft drinks, soy sauce, and red or white wine. Stop taking tobacco products, too.
