Your teeth are an essential feature of your mouth, helping you to bite and chew your food, as well as allowing you to speak. They are also a prominent feature of your smile. If your teeth are affected by any flaws, even minor ones, the beauty of your smile is diminished, and your confidence may be affected as well. At Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS, we can restore the appearance of your teeth, giving you back your smile, with
dental veneers.
What are Veneers?
Teeth veneers are thin, shell-like structures that are made to cover the fronts of damaged teeth, providing a solution to some minor dental imperfections, including issues such as:
• |
Small chips and cracks.
|
• |
Gaps between your teeth.
|
• |
Minor overlapping that does not affect your oral health.
|
• |
Teeth that are misshapen or smaller than others.
|
• |
Discoloration. |
When set in place, teeth veneers can transform the appearance of your teeth, restore the beauty of your smile, and your confidence.
What are Veneers Made From?
Typically, dental veneers are made from either composite resin or porcelain. Both types of veneers are tooth colored, blending in with the rest of your smile. At Janice K. Pliszczak, DDS, however, we offer porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers offer many distinct advantages over composite resin. They are stronger, able to better withstand normal, everyday use. Porcelain also better mimics the natural properties of your tooth enamel, including the way enamel, reflects light.
How are Veneers Placed?
Placing your dental veneers typically takes two visits. During your first visit, the affected teeth are prepared. This process involves removing a small amount of the tooth enamel from the front of each affected tooth. In doing so, we create sufficient space for your porcelain veneers, so that they sit perfectly in amongst the rest of your teeth. This helps to ensure a natural appearance. Once your teeth have been prepared, we then take impressions of your mouth. The impressions are sent to a lab, where your veneers are designed and created.
It can take up to two weeks for your veneers to be completed. Depending upon your specific needs, temporary veneers may or may not be placed. When your new tooth veneers are ready, we bring you in for your second visit. Before placing your veneers, we first check to make certain that they fit properly and look natural. Next, we clean your teeth with a specialized solution that creates a rough texture on the surface of the affected teeth. This texture helps to create a stronger bond between your veneers and your natural teeth. The dental cement is applied to your teeth, and your veneers are set into place.
